When I first got to Shanghai in February, there was a phenomenon beginning. Rental bicycles that could be picked up and dropped off anywhere. All you needed to do was unlock the bike with your mobile phone and off you went.
You could then leave the bike wherever you wanted, close the lock again, and the rental time would end.
The first bike was orange in color, and called MoBike. By the first of May, there were at least six different types of these bikes on the street. So many, in fact that the Chinese government had to place restrictions on where they could be left.
I was amazed at first. Then I came to realize that in China there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
