Makers

Today at The Bridge in Shanghai we hosted Douglas Borkman, a talented and gifted sculpture instructor from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Doug’s class focused on experiential design. If we were to fabricate a teacup for morning tea, what would we want that teacup to look like, to feel like? If we were to fabricate a teacup for afternoon tea, how would it be different?

His point? An object is not just an object. Good design is intentional and particularly suited to the needs and circumstances of the user.
